The Quintessence is a hip-hop group based in New York City. We (the group) live around the New York Metropolitan Area. You're probably wondering what the blood Quintessence means. Actually it's madd deep. The Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines quintessence as "the purest essence of something". That something is Hip Hop. Hip Hop has turned into a vast market for "rappers" to sell their "music" to the mainstream. In this great commercial success, the quality and creativity of the music has decreased. Everybody knows what I mean. The underground and unsigned of the hip hop community is getting ignored, while they are the ones with the skills. We want the face of hip hop to be different. We are starting at our school to bring this music back to its original form. We and Six Dimension Formula (6DF), a freaking dope group at our school, are leading a front of talented artists (not entertainers) to fulfill our mission. The Quintessence were started by a mere group of boys at a private school in New York City. They (Steve, Coco and Jon with financial help from the rest of my grade) decide to get a friend (me, Ravenous) turntables for his birthday. To this day, I'm extremely greatful for their gift. As I fiddled around with my belt drive deks (in laymen's terms, wack turntables) I put out my first tape under the name DJ ARSONIST. The scratching sucked, the mixing sucked , but my freestyle at the end of the tape caught some people's attention. It was wack as hell, cuz it was a freestyle, but I put it out for my friends. Anywayz, days and months passed, and I got kinda nice. So I keep putting out wack mix tapes, with freestyles. Even more time passed, and I got nicer on the wheels of steel. I wasn't putting out tapes. So I'm in 9th grade and my friends convince my butt to perform on Band Day at my school. But I need some emcees with me. So I get some heads to kick rhymes (John Coyne, Will Johnson, and Jon Coplon). In the process of getting prepared for this performance, the Sheriff (my co-exec. producer) and I decide to start our own organic hip-hop jazz group. Being influenced by The Roots, Tribe, Black Star, and 6DF, who had their own CD selling out at school, we decided to muster something up. The group presently consists of Sam Han AKA DJ RAVENOUS (Turntables, Rhymes,Productions), John Coyne AKA J-Nice (on the Mic Device, vocal scratch, guitar), Jon Coplon (EMCEE), William Johnson AKA A Light Skinned Sin (LYRICS), Steve Pristin AKA the Sheriff (Productions, BeatBox, Bass), Daniel Magliocco (drums), Tom Schimdt (Productions,Recording Engineer, Guitar), and Sam Krinsky (on the 73 Keys of ivory and ebony). We are going to soon put up some mp3's of our songs so that you guys can hear what we sound like. We are also creating a CD for ourselves(not for sale). This is only an independent EP. We later will have a commercial LP for sale. | |||||||||||||||||
